Strategic Plan | 2021 – 2025

Rainforest Trust saves endangered wildlife and protects our planet by creating rainforest reserves through partnerships, community engagement and donor support.

This five-year Strategic Plan, launching in 2021, outlines Rainforest Trust’s direction and priorities through 2025.

Half Earth’s lands and waters are protected, providing refuge for wildlife and stabilizing the climate.

Everything we do is underpinned by our values.

  • Nature & People
  • Efficiency & Transparency
  • Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
  • Partnerships & Collaboration
  • Science & Innovation

Our 2025 GOALS

The goals below will guide our work for the next five years. As our planet approaches an irreversible tipping point, our first line of defense must be preservation of rainforests. And the simplest and most cost-effective solution is to create legally recognized protected ares which simultaneously lock up carbon and provide refuge for species. For over 30 years, this has been Rainforest Trust’s mission. Now, as we face unprecedented environmental challenges, we will keep our unwavering focus for the betterment of our planet, species and communities.

Goal 1   |   Save Endangered Species.

Goal 2   |   Protect our planet.

Goal 3   |   Engage people in our conservation mission.

In 2016, faced with the urgency of biodiversity loss and climate change, Rainforest Trust launched the SAVES Challenge with an anonymous benefactor to accelerate the creation of protected areas in the tropical habitats most critical for life on Earth.

Through SAVES (Safeguarding Areas Vital to Endangered Species), we have…

  • Raised $50 million to match a $50 million challenge grant
  • Allocated $100 million to create protected areas in Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, and Asia-Pacific
  • Will protect 40 million acres, bringing the total acreage protected since our founding to 50 million
