A Year of Hope for Earth's Most Vulnerable Species

Cheetahs are built for speed. Their long legs, athletic frame, and powerful heart and circulatory system allow them to push their bodies to a maximum speed of an almost unbelievable 70 miles per hour. But even Cheetahs cannot outrun the risks of habitat loss and degradation. The species once ranged across the African continent and into Asia, but is now mostly restricted to southern and eastern Africa. With your support, we and our partners have already protected more than 1 million acres of Cheetah habitat, with another 15+ million acres in the process of being protected.
Protecting in South Sudan
With support from CAF donors, Rainforest Trust and our partner, African Parks, are working to protect the 9.3-million-acre Boma-Badingilo Migratory Landscape in South Sudan, where Cheetahs coexist with numerous species, including the largest antelope migration on earth.

Healthy Rainforests. Healthy Planet.
Healthy rainforests are critical to a healthy planet. Creating protected areas is the most effective way to protect endangered animals, safeguard biodiversity, stop deforestation, and maintain the health of all species on our planet.

“Halting and reversing biodiversity loss and climate change requires expanded protected and conserved areas, especially in tropical forests—this has been Rainforest Trust’s mission for over 30 years,” said James C. Deutsch, Ph.D., CEO of Rainforest Trust. “Developing nations and Indigenous Peoples need financing to achieve this, which is why we are pledging to more than double our level of funding between now and 2030 and urging other private and public funders to do the same.”
