Nonette is a human rights and environmental lawyer, activist, and author who has pioneered environmental and social justice across Southeast Asia. She serves as the executive director of The International Land and Tenure Facility which was established to advance recognition of Indigenous Peoples’ and local communities’ land and forest rights. Their work drives sustainable development, reduces conflict, mitigates climate change, and has expanded beyond Asia to Europe, Africa and the Americas. Previously, Nonette co-founded and led the Samdhana Institute in Southeast Asia. She is a frequent speaker on Indigenous rights, including a 2022 TED Talk on forest guardianship and the lifelong influence of her father, an Indigenous healer in the Philippines.
