Mariam Crichton

Monarch

Mariam has cared deeply about the planet from an early age, going on to study Earth Science, Geophysics and Geology at postgraduate level. Her passion for nature and travel first took her to the Amazon rainforest in 2003, an experience that sparked a lifelong connection to tropical forests. Having witnessed the changes in rainforests over the past two decades, she is determined to play an active role in their protection.

Professionally, Mariam has been a driving force in the growth of a number of technology start-ups, particularly in the geospatial and Earth Observation sectors. Over the past 16 years, she has specialised in applying technology to tackle environmental and social challenges, giving her a unique “bird’s-eye” perspective of the changes happening on a planetary scale.

In her spare time, Mariam enjoys art, philosophy, travelling and swimming in the sea. She became a Trustee of Rainforest Trust UK in 2025.
