Rainforest Trust has been uniquely focused on creating protected areas. Our success is based in our approach.
We establish strategic partnerships with the world’s most experienced and committed conservationists. Our partners’ know this land best––their expert knowledge of their regions’ ecosystems and local communities is key to achieving long-term land and species protection.
In Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, Asia and the Pacific.
Together with our partners, we identify critical sites that provide a permanent refuge for endangered species and store vast amounts of carbon. These biodiverse areas face immediate and direct threats, typically from loggers, miners or ranchers.
Our dedicated team of conservationists coordinate with our partners to monitor our protected areas. We are happy to report that 99% of forest in our reserves has remained standing post-protection.
No. When land is purchased as a reserve it is owned and maintained by our local partners. When a National Park is designated, the land is owned by the state and managed by our partner. When we help indigenous communities gain title to their land, they own and maintain it. When we help create a Community Forest, the land is owned and maintained by communities and local government.
Yes. Some of our partners maintain and sustain reserves through ecotourism. If you have any questions visiting a particular reserve, please contact info@rainforesttrust.org.
No. Our partners staff and Rainforest Trust Fellows and Guardians work within the reserve. While it is possible for our supporters to visit our reserves, there is not an opportunity to volunteer there.
Products in the store come from corporate sponsors in our Conservation Circle. When you buy their products, a portion of the proceeds go directly to our work.
There are many ways Rainforest Trust can assist you and your school with helping to save threatened rainforest acres. Our Rainforest Ambassadors program not only fosters learning about the wonders of the rainforest through educational curricula, but also offers students the opportunity to protect it.
Whether you create a Crowdrise campaign, shop for Rainforest Trust gear or donate a vehicle, there are many ways you can help. Visit the Ways to Give page for more ideas on how you can be a part of conservation efforts.
