Everyone at Rainforest Trust hopes you are safe as we find ourselves in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The emergence and spread of COVID-19 in humans is the direct result of our destruction of nature and consumption of wildlife. As we strive to respond to the immediate crisis, let us work to prevent the next one by protecting nature and wildlife, especially the rainforest.
Right now, deforestation rates are accelerating across the tropics, resulting in:
- Habitat and biodiversity loss
- Emergence and spread of disease
- Release of stored carbon into the atmosphere, furthering the climate crisis
This month, we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day and its call for climate action. Earth Day, in many ways, captures the mission of Rainforest Trust. And the last 12 months have made clear the urgent need for our conservation work.
